Still No Restart Date For Confederation Line

This is a release from the City of Ottawa:

Sent on behalf of Renée Amilcar, General Manager, Transit Services Department

Good morning Mayor and Members of Council,

I am writing to provide a brief update on the service levels customers can expect today.?

R1 service began this morning at 6:00 a.m. The revised R1 route is operating well, and we continue to monitor it closely.

LRT: City Issues Non-Denial Denial On Bad Axles

Customers should know that:

  • R1 bus service now uses Albert and Slater streets downtown, instead of Queen Street:
    • Westbound R1 buses are running on Albert Street, with stops at Bank and Kent
    • Eastbound R1 buses are running on Slater Street, with stops at Kent and O’Connor
  • Westbound R1 service is running from Blair to Tunney’s Pasture, stopping at each station, except for Lees
  • A shuttle operates between Lees, uOttawa, and Rideau stations:
    • Customers travelling to Lees station from the east can connect with the shuttle and eastbound R1 service at uOttawa station
    • Eastbound R1 service will continue to serve Lees station
  • A shuttle is running between Cyrville station and St-Laurent station in order to connect customers with R1 service

Line 1 stations remain closed, and our staff are at major transit stations providing support to customers during their trip. Social media updates continue to be shared and customers are encouraged to check?OCTranspo.com for the latest information regarding their trip.?

Please rest assured that work on all key areas of the investigation will continue throughout the weekend.

Thank you,?

Would it really matter if they gave us a restart date? We all know that, in the world of OC Transpo, dates are very much moving targets and can at best be taken as approximations of the real re-opening time.

Besides, one of the things that started this cascading nightmare that is the LRT was a push put on by Jim Watson to adhere to an artificial deadline, ready or not, so he could glory in an opening ceremony before heading off to Europe. Do we really want to hurry things along?

The problems is that a fix is not a fix but a postponement to the same problem again.

    Hi Ken,
I have an email from Richard Holder (Director, Engineering Services OC Transpo) saying they were well aware of David Jeanes and his expertise vis a vis trains but stuck with those that made the mess in the 1st place. So are they maybe going to consult someone other than the crew that gave us some shabby engineering shite?

    Yes

    cheers
