Algae Bloom Closes Gatineau Park Beach

This is a release from the National Capital Commission:

The National Capital Commission wishes to advise users of Gatineau Park that Breton beach at Philippe Lake is currently closed. A bloom of cyanobacteria (Blue-Green Algae) was observed today near the edge of the beach.

As a preventative measure to ensure public health and safety, the NCC has decided to close the beach. We will inform the public of the beach reopening once all public safety requirements have been met. Our staff is trained to recognize a cyanobacteria bloom and are thus ensuring continued monitoring throughout the swimming season.

Blanchet and O’Brien beaches (Meech Lake) and Parent beaches (Philippe Lake), the beach at La Pêche Lake and the beach at Leamy Lake remain open.
