Bullet Train Would Embarrass Ottawa’s LRT

Long-time learned Bulldog commenter The Voter says city council had best get its act together as Toronto and Montreal start talking bullet train between the two cities:

Ottawa City Council has reason to be concerned about the advent of either high-speed or high-frequency rail connections to Montreal and Toronto.

What it will do is show up that we could get to either city more conveniently with VIA than to Orleans or Kanata on the LRT. In addition, VIA trains usually run close to when they say they will and are rarely entirely shut down. Council doesn’t want to have their unreliable choo-choo train shown up by something that actually functions.

Council Lost On Bullet-Train Proposal: STANKOVIC

Councillors need to be careful since it would be painfully easy for the city to be left out of the plans altogether. It would be much cheaper for a track to be built and operated directly between Toronto and Montreal without a detour through Ottawa. How long before the Seaway communities such as Cornwall and Prescott start lobbying to have Ottawa left out of the plans in favour of better connections for them to both Toronto and Montreal?

  1. Annette Goldenberg says:

All I can say is Ottawa is a joke. You cannot compare our LRT to Montreal and
Toronto. This LRT should never have been built. Maybe the kids who build the Lego bricks could have done a better job building this so-called LRT. Why bother even talking about it, nothing will ever happen to fix the problems.

  2. Been There says:

Ottawa’ s uninspiring council will be content to sit on the sidelines, hoping to be included by default, while Toronto and Montreal negotiate with VIA. Rest assured if the line becomes a reality they will be there for the photo op.
