City To Lower Flags For Brian Mulroney

 

This is a release from the City of Ottawa:

The flags at all City of Ottawa sites have been lowered to half-mast until sunset on the day of the funeral or memorial service (date to be determined), in honour of The Right Honourable Brian Mulroney P.C. C.C. G.O.Q., 18th Prime Minister of Canada, who passed away on February 29, 2024.

Mr. Mulroney served the citizens of Canada as Prime Minister from 1984-1993.

    Why? Was he mayor? Perhaps City councilor in his much younger years? No? They why? He has no connection with the City other than this being the seat of federal government. Shouldn’t be happening.

    Nicholas, lowering the flag to half staff is a sign of respect. Respect at the time of passing of an individual who held the highest elected position of this country for almost a decade.

    Irrespective of whether you liked or disliked the individual, his party, his government, his policies, an explicit decision to not show respect is to show disrespect. And we already see too much disrespect in today’s society (present company included).
