Dead Guys, Pay Your City Fines: WHOPPER WATCH

“Does the city ever write off old debt? Yes, if it has been deemed truly uncollectible due to issues such as death,  dissolution, lack of documentation, etc. It is important to note that Provincial Offences  Act fines cannot be written off, they remain perpetually owing.”

City of Ottawa release on the collection of deb and fines

So this is ridiculous.

Ridiculous in the sense that the city is answering its own questions in this release. Softball anyone?

And also ridiculous that the city has to say that it will stop collecting fines from the dead. More ridiculous than even that is if you are dead, you still owe money on Provincial Offences Act penalties.

Try jumping up and down on the offenders grave until they rise from the dead to fork over the cash. Go ahead. See how it works out.
