    Yeah…no, why should the marathon be any different from say visiting a tourist site. You don’t have a leash on him and four hours is not unreasonable.

    Agreed there should be value from the trip ovrerall.

    The public should keep in mind that Tourism Ottawa, the mayor’s official sponsor for this trip, gets some of its funding from hotel taxes. Hotel taxes are set by the municipality. That puts the trip into conflict of interest territory. As for whether he tacked an extra day or three to the trip to run in a marathon … meh.

    Conflict of interest is nothing new to the City of Ottawa.

    At Lansdowne, it is partnered with developers with whom it must make impartial decisions for other projects at planning committee and council.

    The city must be impartial but how can it be impartial when the mayor is taking huge gifts from a lobbyist.
