LANSDOWNE: Justify Giving Free Money To Rich Guys

“So councillors. why are you throwing good money after bad? Why are you repeating the errors of your predecessors? Before you cast your vote, have the courage, dare I say the courtesy, to stand up and explain why you are supporting this misadventure.”

Ron Benn on Lansdowne 2.0 in The Bulldog

You know we probably shouldn’t be quoting from ourselves here at Bulldog World Headquarters … but we are. We apologize.

However, Benn makes an extremely good point above. That is councillors should stand up and tell Ottawans why they want to throw more hard-earned tax money at developers that reaps them dividends at Lansdowne but leaves taxpayers covering the enormous bill.

If you’re proud, councillors, shout it out loud. Try to justify voting for Lansdowne 2.0, just try. And do it in a public place. Try to keep a straight face. Be prepared to dodge thrown tomatoes.

As we mentioned during the airport hotel city apprehended subsidy, why are we giving money to rich guys?

Rich guys have money and great ability, because of all that money, to leverage it into huge bank loans.

The Concept Of Lansdowne Doesn’t Work

Stop giving away free money or give all we Ottawa taxpayers a big cut of it. If they’re giving away free money at Ottawa City Hall, and they are, I’d like a piece of that action.

Or … the City of Ottawa could stop wasting that valuable tax money. Appears the priceless light-rail tunnel will need a fix because water is getting into the hole. We might need that free money. We might need a whole lot more than just that free money.

It’s a novel concept this Benn fellow is giving us. He wants councillors to justify why they are voting for this bone-headed initiative. If Lansdowne 2.0 passes and it probably will, it’s time for thinking Ottawans to consider moving to Gatineau or Perth or Carleton Place or Almonte to get out from under this civic tyranny of spending stupidity in Ottawa.

If you want to know who votes for Lowdowne 2.0, just tune into Roger’s community television on council day and if you see empty seats around the rim, those are the councillors supporting this wonky deal. Listen closely and you’ll hear a muffled “yea” during the vote from our affirmative representatives who will be hiding under their desks.

Yes, we look forward to councillors trying to justify giving free money to rich guys.

Go along if you want to get along.

  2. Ron Benn says:

RR, I find it bemusing that, when a councillor wishes to make a virtue signal, they can wax on philosophic for ever. When they decide to “go along to get along” their hypocritical silence is deafening. Then they wonder why the public holds so many elected officials in such low esteem.

  3. Frank Zarboni says:

I am against giving more free money or tax giveaways to the rich so that they will be able to make more money out of our taxpayer funded properties.

This is insane for any of us to believe they are hard done by.

I can’t believe this might even be considered.

    Frank:

Needless to say I’m with you on this.

And just wait til the new owners of the hockey team do the same thing.

    cheers
