Let’s Give All Ottawans Free Money: THE VOTER

If the city is giving away free money, The Voter wants a share:

The city has $300 million lying around that it wants to unload? Maybe on a downtown arena?

Well, here’s an idea – there are roughly a million people living in Ottawa. Why doesn’t the city give each of them $300 to spend as they wish? If residents decide to give it to Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer, well and good.

No Free Money For Senators Or Lansdowne … Period

But where’s the catch in all this? Oh yes. The city would have to get the $300 from us first before they could hand it over to us. The tricky part there is some of us might have more pressing needs than helping a billionaire who clearly doesn’t plan very well when he makes large purchases. He paid a large sum for a hockey team and an existing arena and now it turns out he didn’t budget properly for what he wants to do with it. I’m not sure how that’s my problem or that of my neighbours.

Thanks for the opportunity but I and my family will all hold onto our $300 to buy some groceries and other basic items. If my budget does work out so that I have a little spare cash, I can think of several useful things to spend it on before I would consider chipping in on a hockey arena.

Just one question though. If I do fork over my $300, will I get my name on a plaque on one of the seats?
