  1. John Langstone says:

The focus at City Hall seems to me to be more and more like that of a BIA since the last municipal election. To me, the mayor appears to regard his primary role as that of executive director of an Ottawa Business Improvement Area. Potholes anyone?

  2. Been There says:

One important requirement seems to be missing.
    – The successful candidate must reside in the city, preferably in the ByWard Market area.

    Been There,

Back in the days of Charlotte Whitton, city employees were required to live within the city’s bounds. At some point, that was challenged successfully and the City can no longer make that a condition of employment.

Before the challenge, you would have been amazed at how many people could be residents of one small apartment. Anybody living outside the city would just give the address of a friend or relative as their place of residence. Often it was a co-worker and, if the actual resident of the apartment got promoted, everyone else suddenly moved. The City rarely checked since, in those days, they used their time to fill potholes and deliver other services.
