The increased building height motion probably started its life in the planning department with the gleeful assistance of a developer or two.

Can you imagine the way the development industry is salivating at the thought of adding between two and five storeys to building heights in areas around the city? Expect the demolition permits to start rolling out of city hall as properties’ values skyrocket.

It’s not often that they have the chance to upend the Official Plan without having to deal with pesky consultations where residents and other businesses object vociferously to things that will put more cash in your pockets. I sincerely hope that there are enough councillors with some integrity that this gets referred to committee for public consultation followed by a healthy committee debate.
