Five Transpo Trains Down Due To Storm

This is a release from the City of Ottawa:

Mayor and Members of Council,

This email is to provide Council with an update on the status of O-Train Line 1 service. Due to this significant weather event, there are four stopped trains along the system that have experienced power loss.

In anticipation of the forecasted freezing rain, trains were run continuously overnight and this morning 13 trains were running, 10 of which had winter carbons to reduce ice build-up on the overhead wires. Despite these precautions, five vehicles became immobilized and customers had to be safely evacuated.

Official, Unofficial Updates On LRT Outage

Given the current conditions and to ensure customer safety, we have taken the additional step of suspending Line 1 and have implemented R1 bus service. R1 is running between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair stations at approximately 20-minute intervals.

Outreach teams are at stations and additional staff have been deployed to assist customers.

At this time, we will continue to provide regular updates to our customers through all of our communication channels on an estimated time of return to service. Customers?can get?information?on their trips at?octranspo.com,?by following @OCtranspoLive or?calling?613-560-5000.?

CHAT BOX: Discuss The Weather, LRT Outage

Staff will also be providing an explanation of the cause of this disruption once RTG completes its investigation. Thank you for your patience as we work through this challenging weather event to get service up and running as soon as possible.

A media availability will be scheduled for this afternoon.

Merci,

Renée Amilcar

This LRT project is getting to the point that is beyond insanity. How can the City promote itself with a straight face as a progressive city for attracting and keeping businesses like tech firms or as a city offering a high quality of life for new residents and new employees coming to work at a high tech company?
