LIGHT RAIL: More Tech Woes At Media Relations
Recently the City of Ottawa media relations department had a communications problem with The Bulldog.
Apparently after leaving three messages on the department’s voicemail that this publication had questions for the city, no one got back to The Bulldog.
The next day after The Bulldog published the fact that communications had failed to answer those voicemails, media relations got back to this publication saying its voicemail wasn’t working. Technical problems.
Official, Unofficial Updates On LRT Outage
Today the city released this document saying that an online news conference on the light-rail breakdown, they invited the media to tune in at 4:30 p.m. This email arrived at 5:19 p.m.
It’s lonely here at Bulldog World Headquarters … very lonely.
This is the release from the City of Ottawa:
Mayor and Members of Council,
Further to my previous email, this is to provide Council with an update on the status of O-Train Line 1 service.
OC Transpo is focused on restoring service as soon as it is safe to do so. Staff is working with our maintenance provider, Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM), to inspect and clear ice from the overhead wires and rails across the system. Once inspections are complete, stopped trains will be removed from the line and service will be restored on Line 1.
Staff are prioritizing areas of the line to restore service and believe it will be possible to reinstate partial service in the west end of the line later today. Additional sections of the system will be brought back into service as soon as it is safe to do so.
R1 bus service continues to operate between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair stations at intervals of approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
Ice Storm Will Be A Big Test Of LRT
Rideau Transit Group (RTG) has begun an investigation into the cause of this disruption and Council will be provided with this information once this investigation is complete.
OC Transpo will host a media availability at 4:30pm today to provide an update on the safe restoration of service. The media availability will be available on the City’s YouTube channel.
Outreach teams are at stations to assist customers and OC Transpo continues to provide updates through all our communications channels. Customers can get information on their trips at octranspo.com, by following @OCtranspoLive or calling 613-560-5000.
Merci,
Renée Amilcar
