A Better Use For $1-Million Transpo Ad Money

In reference to the previous post which outlines the $1-million mystery-launch advertising campaign of the Trillium Line commuter rail service, your agent could find an alternative use for the cash.

OC Transpo could give that money to me. First, I’m absolutely cheap compared to the free money the City of Ottawa gives away to rich guys. But most importantly, I could create, if asked, an even crappier advertising campaign than one created by the civic transit service.

I could do a bad job for much less than $1 million for the bad job OC Transpo will pay for it. So your agent is a bargain compared to Transpo. I can do a bad job at least as bad as OC Transpo for much less money. I’m a great deal in so many ways. I’m confident that just as few riders will take transit with my campaign as Transpo’s campaign.

This is the kind of logic that should appeal to our council.

Here’s What Ottawans Are Concerned About

I mean, I could think up a slogan as bad as the last Transpo one: you know, something like: “I’m here and you’re there” or derivations thereof.

So in summary, buy a cheaper bad job from The Bulldog rather than a more expensive bad job from OC Transpo.

It’s money poorly spent.

Furthermore, like it or lump it, Transpo is the only transit company in town. If it works, people will take it because it’s a transit monopoly. If it doesn’t work, they’ll take the car.

So why is Transpo spending money on advertising when performance will be the measure of ridership?

That said, if pressed, I would recommend giving the money to me.

I can do a bad job for a much lower price.

This money for nothing and your trips for free smacks of the Hotel California at Ottawa airport, or the poor Porsche dealership needing tax brakes..spelling intentional.
How can a city so far in debt not be able to realize this is just another make work project? Answer…Because their head is so far up…they can not see any light!

Opening the Trillium line will be news.

News outlets will cover it. Over and over again.

People will know the Trillium Line is open.

So why use taxpayer money for a campaign that is quite likely to be absolutely lifeless and not bring a passenger to OC Transpo?

    cheers
