What??? Let’s just go back and call it the Ottawa Rver Parkway which most people still do.

  2. Beverly Friedman says:

Very very few people will ever remember that name !!

  3. Anderson Davies says:

    Head bang emoji!

  4. sisco farraro says:

My wife is part native and her comment after I read her this article was “no one’s going to remember that”. And while I sympathize with what native Canadians have had to endure over the years in this country, what immediately comes to mind is a quote from the wicked witch of the West – “What a world, what a world”.

  5. Jean-Paul Murray says:

Ottawa River Parkway was partly a native name… More window dressing, smoke and mirrors from the NCC to camouflage is atrociously inept management of the capital…

  6. Ron Benn says:

Renaming the renamed Western Parkway is just another virtue signal from an organization that spends too much of its (read our) resources accomplishing nothing tangible. How many First Nations people will consider this a meaningful step along the path to reconciliation? Reconciliation in their context of their understanding, not the NCC’s.

  7. Ken Gray says:

    Thank you for this, Ron.

What I would like to know is when will we know we have reconciled? What is the sign?

There must be a goal and a conclusion or we will be reconciling forever. And that’s not healthy for everyone who is involved in this.

    cheers

  8. Bruce says:

Rename?? How about Kitchisippi but I likely did not spell it correctly

  9. Ken Gray says:

    you were pretty close, bruce.

    cheers

  10. Annette Goldenberg says:

Naming or renaming the Parkway is kind of stupid. In one way what will happen
when tourists come to Ottawa and see the sign and not knowing the name was changed they will be confused considering all maps will not have been printed with the name change. Why after all these years change it? Yes I do know all about the natives and yes they are good people I have no problem with that. But is Ottawa planning to change more names to native names? It’s nice but do not over do it.
