MPP Williams Not To Be Confused With JFK
Brampton MPP Charmaine Williams is no John Kennedy.
The Associate Minister of Women’s Social and Economic Opportunity might not be so quick on her feet.
Williams didn’t want to comment on the defeat of Bill 5 that would give municipal councillors the right to turf out a colleague who took part in abuse or violence against an employee.
The MPP said she needed two weeks advance warning and questions in advance “to allow for adequate scheduling and preparation.”
The Bad Guys Are Winning The War On Journalism
What a load of garbage. She just doesn’t want to get herself in a difficult position. She can’t answer questions without two weeks notice and the questions in advance. Just how slow on her feet is she?
Democracy should occur every day, not just once every four years. Democracy demands full and complete answers to questions immediately, not two weeks from now. The public and the electorate expect that. In fact, they demand that.
Let’s cut to the chase. Williams doesn’t want to answer questions on Bill 5 because they would be awkward given her position at Queen’s Park. If you can’t answer questions from the media, perhaps Williams should not be in the post.
Newspaper Employee Numbers Barely A Blip
Now here was a person who popularized the televised press conference in the early days of TV news. My, hasn’t democracy declined since the days of U.S. President John F. Kennedy? Kennedy who didn’t need the questions in advance and two weeks to answer.
He just replied as he should:
Kennedy taking rapid-fire questions.

Those were the days. I actually have a copy of Meader’s records (I think there were two). Given what happened to JFK, is it surprising that that Ms Williams wants two weeks to prepare her non answers?
