OPS Screws Up The Message In Ottawa Shootings

We’ve had a tragedy in our community and our hearts go out to the friends of relatives of the victims of a vicious shooting.

Two dead and six injured in our community last night. Terrible and highly unusual.

But the Ottawa Police Service trains for these things. Or at least one imagines it does.

Nevertheless, if a solid and experienced hand at the Ottawa Citizen such as Tina Spencer says the police are being too tight-lipped, guess what? They are being too tight-lipped.

Perhaps if our politicized police force spent less time worrying about the thin blue line and traumatizing a youngster who flipped the bird at them, maybe they could get the communications right.

Officer Responds Oddly To School Invitation

Here’s something your agent has noticed over four decades in journalism that might strike home with the gendarmerie (though probably not).

When people are good at what they do, they’re confident and competent in dispensing information. You’ve got people in the neighbourhood who are nervous and the Ottawa Police Service is screwing up the communications. Kind of playing to form.

When people don’t know what they’re doing, they take the easy road and keep their mouths shut. That’s bad for everyone, including the OPS.

Well let’s see. Spencer says they’re not doing a good job on this communications business.

Tina has been around the block a couple of times and knows what she’s talking about.

So one more screw up for the badly screwed up OPS.

Shameful.
