“This is so much disrespect to our work, to our culture and to our community’s well-being. I just don’t understand why people have done this. It’s very discouraging for us.”

Yukang Li, executive director of the Chinatown BIA

Eight groups of cartoon sculptures have been stolen or damaged in Chinatown.

All of the sculptures reflect Chinese culture as seen through that people’s cartoons.

God knows there are enough racist no-brainers out there and not-a-few psychopaths who have no empathy for their victims. And in this case, those victims are children who loved the cartoon characters.

Of course, these criminals could also be your garden-variety unthinking mean idiots who take joy in destroying things.

They make our country much more interesting and contribute to making Canada a better place. Recognize that the vast majority of Canadian are with you.
