So now City Hall not only functions in an alternate universe from the rest of us (which, by the way, I’ve suspected for some time!), now they have an alternate counting system and/or calendar. It seems Scotty has already beamed some of them up … and not in a good way.

When I went to school, there was only one day “between” June 9th and the 11th. It was June 10th. If they forgot to mention that they meant “June 9th to 11th inclusive”, that still only gives me three days, not eleven. If they were celebrating eleven days of fun, they might do as the Italian community does where I live. Here they have an Italian Week that lasts from the flag-raising on the 8th to its closing on the 18th. Coincidentally, that’s eleven days!

I am relatively confident that Preston Street will also be closed on the 18th when the bike races take place. It’s hard to race a bike while dodging cars and buses although any bike courier will tell you it can be done.

Would this kind of mistake be made in a McKenney or a Chiarelli City Hall? I would suggest not. One of them lives around the corner from Preston Street and represented Somerset Ward which includes Preston Street and Little Italy. The other grew up in the neighbourhood and is a prominent member of Ottawa’s Italian community. Both of them can count and read a calendar.
