Tomberline Takes Carleton Interim President Post

This is a release from Carleton University:

Carleton’s former Provost and Vice President (Academic) Dr. Jerry Tomberlin formally assumed the role of Interim President and Vice-Chancellor on September 1, 2023 as the Board of Governors conducts a search for the university’s next president. This follows the announcement earlier this summer that, after five years, outgoing President and Vice-Chancellor Benoit-Antoine Bacon is leaving to become President and Vice-Chancellor at the University of British Columbia.

“I am honoured to have the opportunity to continue to serve Carleton’s smart, caring community,” said Tomberlin. “Carleton has strong momentum and I look forward to working with both the campus and external community to ensure that we continue to challenge what’s possible in teaching, learning and research, and providing the type of student experience the university is renowned for.”

“We are fortunate to have someone of Dr. Tomberlin’s unique talents and experience,” said Board Chair Greg Farrell. “Carleton has made tremendous progress over the past few years and his background and time with the university will ensure that continues.”

Carleton has soared over the past five years, with many accomplishments including the development and implementation of a Strategic Integrated Plan, a marked increase in research funding and student success, an elevated national profile and reputation, a refreshed campus master plan, and several new buildings. Carleton has also distinguished itself with considerable progress in sustainability, community engagement, Indigenous initiatives, as well as equity, diversity, and inclusion.
