‘Vault Will Be Unlocked’ At Lansdowne: OSEG President

This is a message sent to Lansdowne supporters after the affirmative vote at Ottawa City Council for the project.

Frankly, taxpayers would probably be interested in the words of Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group president Mark Goudie, the author of the missive below, when he says “the vault will be unlocked.”

Just whose vault are we talking about here? Those might not have been the wisest of words.

The note from Goudie is below:

I asked, you delivered, thank you for your overwhelming support of the Lansdowne 2.0 project. Thanks to you City Council has given its approval to move forward with the Lansdowne 2.0 project!

The vote, which passed with a strong 16-9 majority, signifies a significant milestone on our journey toward enhancing the heart of our city. We’re thrilled to see that this decision aligns with the preferences of two-thirds of Ottawans, as indicated by a recent poll.

But what’s next, you might wonder? Are we grabbing shovels and hard hats right away? Well, not quite!

This vote serves as an official endorsement of the project, which includes a brand-new Event Centre, upgraded North Stadium Stands, and the exciting addition of more on-site residential spaces. It also secures the investment earmarked for this transformation, keeping it safe and sound, ready for action.

Do The Math On Lansdowne Event Centre

Our next steps involve delving into detailed design work, collaborating closely with the City (who owns these facilities), architects and various consultants. This primarily focuses on the Event Centre, as we strive to finalize designs and construction plans. Meanwhile, City Council has a bit of “homework” to complete, which includes:
• Defining a governance model for Lansdowne 2.0 (Who does what? What’s our role?)

• Gathering bids from the development community via a request for proposal to build the residential component

• Amending partnership agreements with OSEG

• Reviewing the work done by the City Auditor General concerning Lansdowne
All these tasks are set to be wrapped up in Q1 and Q2 of 2024. Once the final bell rings on this homework, the vault will be unlocked, and we can start the process of applying for a building permit for the Event Centre. If all goes well, we might even see construction commence on the Event Centre late next year!

As a reminder, the construction plan is strategically divided into three phases to minimize disruptions both to our businesses and to Lansdowne itself:
• Event Centre (24 months)

• North Stadium Stands (24 months)

• Residential buildings (3+ years)
We couldn’t be more thrilled about this news. It’s the result of tireless efforts, dedication, and a shared vision for the future of Lansdowne. New and improved facilities sports and entertainment fans are inching closer to reality!

Stay tuned for more updates and exciting developments as we embark on this remarkable journey together. Thank you for your continued support, and here’s to an even better Lansdowne!

  1. The Voter says:

Words fail me. How dare they? This is a perfect example of their arrogance and cocksure attitude all along. They knew what they had to do to get the City coffers opened to them by their tame councillors and they did it.

This is disgusting, plain and simple. And so are they. A pox on all their houses!

Even more disgusting is that their pet councillors won’t see this for what it is.
