Do The Math On Lansdowne Event Centre

What’s going on here?

Quebec City built an 18,000-seat NHL-calibre arena in 2015 for $370 million. Taking into account inflation over that period, the cost of the rink would be $414 million at the end of 2022.

Gatineau built a new arena with 4,000 seats for major junior hockey with three ice pads for the community and one for the Gatineau Olympiques plus a synthetic turf multi-sport area, a restaurant and a physiotherapy centre. It cost $80 million.

Ottawa’s Exodus Begins: PATTON

The new “event centre” at Lansdowne is projected to cost between $250 million to $300 million and will seat 5,500 people. It has the arena for the major junior hockey Ottawa 67’s and event areas. Do the math.

Yesterday, The Mission was asking for donations because the number of people using its facilities has increased (some homeless people are sleeping in chairs or on the floor) and food inflation is making it difficult for the shelter to make ends meet.

Priorities.
