Hydro One Links Snapped Wire On Hwy. 174 To LRT

Hydro One has responded below to Orleans resident J. P. Unger’s inquiry about why one of the operation’s wires fell on Highway 174.

Hydro One has linked the broken electrical wire to stone-drilling vibrations from light-rail line construction.

Unger said the fallen live wire caused “chaos” on Highway 174.

The response from Hydro One is below:

Dear Mr. Unger,

Thank you for sending us your inquiry.

I have reached out to the Field technician that assessed the cause.
He has indicated that a Quick Sleeve let go, this is random and not something that can be predicted.
There is a possibility that the LRT construction using a rockdrill will cause vibrations and from it a Quick sleeve can let go.

There is a plan in place to repair without quick sleeves.

If you have any questions, please email or call the Orleans field office at  —- and we’ll be happy to help.

Sincerely,

Edgar
