NCC Stops Traffic During Champlain Bridge Rush Hour

So here’s a little something our friends at the National Capital Commission might want to have a pleasant talk about with the construction companies renovating the Champlain Bridge.

Yesterday it took 59 minutes to get the bridge. That’s a lot of idling cars during our climate emergency.

And you know why it took 59 minutes to get to the Champlain Bridge? Not across it, but just to get on the bridge. I’m glad you asked.

Freezing Police Budget Will Get OPS Attention

Because there were workers who had reduced the bridge to one lane … not one lane north and one lane south, oh no nothing so simple. One lane period. Flag workers with signs that said slow on one side and stop on the other were halting traffic completely.

But get this. Was this during the night or off-peak traffic hours? No. It was during rush hour. Yes, afternoon rush hour.

The traffic jams leading to the bridge were mammoth and unsafe. This is some of the stupidest planning your agent has ever seen.

I’m older so I lived in a day when you made gargantuan mistakes, you were disciplined. But that’s not today. And it is reflected in the appalling decline of customer service.

So I will translate this into language currently in vogue in workplaces.

This is a coaching opportunity to meet a challenge. And don’t forget, there’s no ‘I’ in team.

Beaches Are Open. Have Correct Amount Of Fun: NCC

Perhaps the NCC could embark on this coaching opportunity because the Crown Corporation, the people of Ottawa and Gatineau and the construction crews are a team. We are all in this together and we need to work together so that we all profit personally and professionally by efficient and proper behaviour.

Perhaps in this discussion, if it is not too abrupt, they could point out to the team that the purpose of the Champlain Bridge is to carry automobiles and buses across it.

Safe to say, the NCC and the construction companies let down the team.

I’m sorry to be so forthright.

  1. Andrew says:

You forgot the “accountable executive” in modern governance. It was supposed to hold the executive accountable and liable for the major mistakes and risks. Bringing in a new era of quality decision making.

It actually means: Carry on and if you screw up you can retire early with payout, or get a move into another position with a pay increase.
