Kavanagh Shows Strength On Lansdowne: THE VOTER

Long-time Bulldog reader and commenter The Voter weighs in on the upcoming vote on Lansdowne:

Great to see Bay Councillor Theresa Kavanagh is using her backbone and won’t be pushed to support the unsupportable. Now we wait to see if other councillors will follow.

Regardless of her planned vote, I hope she and others will still ask the tough questions at both committee and council to force the city to admit to what a boondoggle this is. Commentator Walter Robinson did a great job of exposing the financial facts and showing how sketchy the Lansdowne 2.0 and 2.1 plans really are. We need this shown to all of council as well as all the city’s residents so they can understand the whole proposal for what it is.

Mayor Mark Sutcliffe made a great show of turning down the Germaine hotel’s request for city funding for their proposed airport hotel because, as he said, the City shouldn’t be funding private enterprise’s building plans. Let’s hope he will stand on the same high moral ground in relation to Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group. The hotel is still going to be built without city money. Will the same apply to OSEG’s plans if the City turns off the tap?
